You know those days that just make you feel AMAZING; the ones that you don’t want to end and just cherish. I had one of those days today. I did everything that makes me entirely happy and whole. What is that you may ask?
Started out my day with yoga, coffee and a big smoothie. Then headed out for a day of fun in the sun with my partner in crime Tara. We began our day in the heart of Manly. Walked down to Shelley Beach and began our journey through Sydney Harbour National Park – North Head, to the Fairfax Lookout and back down to Manly for some more fun. We were geared up for the day with a full backpack of towels, sunscreen, water, and most importantly – my GoPro.
Our journey started from Shelley Beach, we walked up to the beginning of the Sydney Harbour National Park – leading towards the Fairfax look out. We followed the stone foot path and made a few stops along the way at the look outs and the neat stone work walls. A really good lookout is actually within the first kilometer of the trail – it will ver off to the left a bit and have a rocky trail. Climb up the rocks a bit and you are graciously rewarded with panoramic views of the ocean, cliffs, and the never ending beauty of Australia. Honestly this place is crazy beautiful and it just keeps getting better.
The trail has a steep start but after the first kilometer it is smooth sailing from there. There are a lot of stone cut stairs which are really nice. After the first steep bit you will reach flat land (at last). You walk through some very lush green forestry in the somewhat desert like soil. If you turn back you are rewarded with some beauty views of the coast and Manly itself. The trails are well marked with signs and lizards to guide your way. Seriously we saw like 5 today just out sunning themselves. Still startle me every time.
We followed the path up to the Fairfax Lookout and took in the views of the ocean, racing sailboats, and the city. It has a pretty neat perspective of the city that’s for sure. It’s a lovely spot for a picnic or just to check out. Also to note – they have a restuarant, information centre and bathrooms up there. So very helpful! The information centre is loaded with pamphlets and really in depth history of the North Head. They have clearly invested some money in it – and it pays off. Spent a good while in there reading about the history, wildlife, and preservation of The Sydney Harbour National Park.
Finally, we made it back down to the beach for a quick tan… or nap on the beach for me. We ended our day by going down to the Manly Beach Rock Pools. Best idea ever. I had brought my GoPro and used it in water before but not like this. Needless to say the photos will give you a good idea of what we got into. Its so nice to just float, do laps, or just hang out my the pool. Its quiet and there are no waves to make it impossible to swim.
All in all, another amazing day, I love getting up early and having a hectic day of fun in the sun. It’s good for the soul. If you’re ever in the Manly area I would definitely look into more than just lounging on the beach. Check out the Shelley Beach lookout, Fairfax Lookout, Rock Pools, and walk the Corso markets. I just simply love Manly, and I say it all the time. Its just the neatest spot, with beautiful views wherever and whenever.
