you deserve the world

He whispered you deserve the world,
And so I did just that,
I fled there and didn’t look back,
I travelled miles,
Over water and mountains,
By foot,
By bike,
By sheer luck,
And by some miracle,
When time began to slow,
And places blurred from one to the next,
I knew I didn’t deserve the world,
Rather I deserved the chance to have it change me,
Show me the unknown,
And the hidden corners,
The barren lands of the West,
The lapping oceans on the coast,
The sunrises and sunsets,
The song of the wild birds,
And the sweet grass that tickled my toes,
I travelled so far,
And saw the best and the worst,
I knew I didn’t deserve the world,
I deserved the chance to live,
To embrace it,
And experience it,
To grasp it,
And scrape back the layers of it,
No one deserves the world,
But merely a chance to experience it,
In all its glorious beauty,
It’s saturated kindness and colours
